News of Mexican Grays

The Arizona lawmakers recently passed two laws limiting the protections for the Mexican Grays or Lobos, fortunately the governor of Arizona has vetoed these bills.
As of March of 2014 there are believed to be 14 wild packs of Mexican Grays.  Throughout the country various zoos and conservation organization host a number of Mexican Grays as part of the Species Survival Plan.

What is the Species Survival Plan?

Currently there are over 500 Species Survival Plan programs, for various endangered and threatened animals.  The purpose behind these programs is to provide genetically diverse populations for release to the wild.
Some species with SSPs are Mexican Gray Wolf, Red Wolf, Black-footed Ferrets, Giant Pandas and Lowland Gorillas.
